Abstract

This study was focused on the differences of self-concepts classified by variables of age, grade, divisions of classes (day classes, evening classes), and experiences of clinical practice, through identifying general characteristics and score
level
of
self-concepts, and relationship between self concepts and academic achievement, therefore, to offer better guidelines for counselling
Data were collected for 3 months from November 1, 1991 to January 31, 1992. Subjects were 311(freshmen 158, sophomore 76, junior 77) who attend R. Junior College of Nursing in Seoul.
For this study, data were computerized by SPSS and analyzed by average, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe-test, and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. There was a significant difference between the average of subscore in self-concepts and age, that is, the age group of 22-24 showed higher score than the group of 19-21 in their Total Positive Self Score, Self Satisfaction Score, and
Physical
Self Score. In Moral Ethical Self Score, the age group of more than 25 showed higher score than group of 19-21, significantly.
2. Higher grade, higher level in their Total Positive Score and average of 8 subscores, significantly.
3. Statistically they have significant differences between Day Classes and Evening Classes in their Total Positive Score, Self Identifying Score, and Self Behavior Score.
4. Experienced group of clinical practice (sophomore and junior) showed significant differences with non-experienced group by higher score in their Total Positive Score and 8 subscores.
5. Correlation between self-concepts and academic achievement vary by their grades and subscore each.
6. Between positive group in their self-concepts and negative group, there were significant differences, partially, in academic achievement according to their grades.
7. The score level of self-concepts beween lower group and upper group in their academic achievement, were significant in freshmen's Personal Self Scores only.
